NCEES Examination Statistics

  

Each year, nearly 32,500 engineers apply for licensure through the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), with approximately 8,000 of them being retakers. 


Among these, civil engineering is the most sought-after discipline, attracting about 22,000 applicants, including roughly 6,000 retakers. 


Focusing specifically on civil engineering, the average passing rate is 60%, while the passing rate for retakers stands at an average of 40%. 


In contrast, the overall average passing rate across all disciplines is close to 70%, making the civil engineering PE license one of the most challenging to obtain.
